Black Women Film Conference 2022

October 1, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

IN-PERSON

Join us for New Negress Film Society’s third annual Black Women Film Conference in Harlem at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. The day will include film screenings, thought-provoking discussions, and a reception—all towards reimagining a future that centers radical Black women and non-binary voices.

The conference schedule will be announced soon.

Black Women Film Conference

The Black Women Film Conference convenes Black women and non-binary filmmakers worldwide to share work, discuss our craft, exchange filmmaking strategies, and build community. Throughout the conference, we explore the current landscape of cinema and the intersections of history, filmmaking, and political action through the lens of Black women and non-binary creators. This convening offers a vital space that amplifies the ideas and practices of Black women and non-binary artists, whose work centers historically marginalized voices and champions a progressive filmmaking ethos.

The New Negress Film Society The New Negress Film Society is a collective of Black women and non-binary filmmakers who coordinate public programming and produce films that center the voices and experiences of Black non-binary, women and girls. The work we create, the programming we offer, and the conversations we facilitate are all rooted in a legacy of collective artmaking, institution-building, and consciousness-raising grounded in the personal and political realities of Black people. We protect the integrity of our artistic process from the harms of commercialization and commodification, and we believe the best protection is collectivizing. You can support the Black Women’s Film Conference here.
